<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/infiniti">Infiniti</a> has turned over its cards and revealed pricing for two of its 2010 G37 models, and there is barely a bump in MSRP for the base models: the sedan's price remains the same at $33,250, while the coupe goes up by $150 to $36,050 - for which you get the revamped outside and upgraded materials and electronics inside.<br />
<br />
As usual, traveling higher up the food chain requires more dosh, but it's interesting to see how much of a hit the more enthusiast-oriented models are taking. For the sedan, the Journey trim is upped by $750, the all-wheel drive model by $350, and the Sport 6MT surges by $2,750. The coupe increases by $850 for the Journey, $450 for the AWD, and a whopping $3,400 has been tacked onto the Sport 6MT. It isn't immediately clear why the 6MT models have been targeted for comparatively large increases in price (we're guessing it's a volume thing), but you can get more details on both models in the press release after the jump.<br />

<strong>UPDATE</strong>: Just got word from Infiniti that the reason for the significant price increase on the 6MT model is the substantial amount of additional kit, including Bose stereo, power moonroof, iPod interface, heated front seats, power tilt/telescopic steering wheel, anti-glare mirror with Homelink and Bluetooth -- all standard.</em><br />

<br /> Toyota has just released the full spec sheet for their <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/sienna">2011 Sienna</a> minivan. This third-generation people hauler should be in dealerships by February with your choice of five different trim levels, the carryover 266-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 or a newly available 187 horsepower, 2.7-liter four-cylinder, and front- or all-wheel drive. They ride on an updated version of the current platform but feature extensive reinforcements to increase rigidity and drastically revised suspensions. They also use a new hill-logic-equipped six-speed automatic transmission. While the Sienna hasn't grown externally, there is more space inside and the Sienna has gained about 100 pounds.<br /> <br /> The lightest four-cylinder models weigh in at 4,275 lbs., while the V6 adds just 30 pounds to that total. With mileage ratings that are only 1-2 MPG better than the bent six and such a small weight penalty, we question how many people will opt for the four-banger. It will surely come down to pricing (which has not been announced yet). Sienna AWD buyers will pay a 200-pound penalty, but they are the only ones to get third-gen Bridgestone runflats. While no towing figures were released for the 2.7-liter, the 2011 Sienna is rated at 3,500 pounds with the V6.<br /> <br /> Toyota has announced that they will be simplifying their vehicle combinations with the Sienna, so there are fewer individual options and more packages. Major options packages include Preferred Packages for LE and SE that add XLE-like features, and Entertainment (16-inch Dual-View rear video screen) and Premium Packages for XLE and Limited that consist of the Entertainment package plus a touch-screen navigation system and a JBL sound system. Navi can be ordered separately on XLE and Limited as well. The slick Lounge Seating equipped Limited can also be ordered with a Convenience Package (HIDs with auto-off and automatic high beams as well as rain sensing wipers) and the Advanced Technology Package, which adds such Lexus-like features as Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Pre-Collision System (PCS), Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management System (VDIM), and Hill Assist Control (HAC).     <title><![CDATA[2011 Kia Sorento pricing pops up, starts under $20k*]]></title>

At $19,995 for the starter model (*plus $795 in destination charges), you'll get a five-seat unibody crossover with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a manual transmission standard. That engine puts out 175 horsepower and 169 pound-feet of torque and is also standard fitment for the uplevel LX and EX models, but the latter two get automatic transmissions.<br /> <br /> The top tier model is the EX V6, with a 3.5-liter V6 proffering 276 hp and 248 ft-lb. All of the variants except the base also come in either front-drive or all-wheel drive variants, and there is also a seven-seat version. It goes without saying that when you think you've seen everything, you ain't seen jack. We were reminded of this the other night while perusing the <em>New York Post's</em> online sports page for the skinny on the <a href="http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/backpage/report_angels_matsui_in_serious_nC6GqZPV7aVIFGuRSbXDFP">Hideki Matsui deal</a>. Frankly, Godzilla's contract status seemed a lot less important once we spied <a href="http://usa.classifieds.nypost.com/view/2001-lincoln-limousine-hearse-combination-clean-75k-803-282-9163/1706628967/usa/">this classified ad</a> for a 2001 Lincoln Town Car combination hearse/limousine displayed on the page.<br />

The description touts the strange Townie as essentially representing the zenith of funereal transportation innovation:<br />

It's the holiday season and that means shopping and deal-finding is at a premium. A trip to warehouse stores Costco or Sam's Club will likely net you some tidy deals on anything from eggs and Hot Pockets to a Jacuzzi or even a casket. Even carmakers are getting in on the dealmaking, as a recent promotion <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/09/mitsubishi-launches-big-incentives-through-sams-club/">with Mitsubishi and Sam's can attest</a></span>. Not to be outdone, Costco is also getting in on the act.<br />
<br />
The warehouse store and Sweden's Volvo are collaborating on a promotion for the XC60, XC70 and XC90 that includes discounts and a $500 Costco card which comes six-to-eight weeks after purchase. Customers who purchase an <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/xc60">XC60</a> from Costco also get Volvo employee pricing. Buyers of the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/xc70">XC70</a> and<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/xc90"> XC90</a> will receive an additional $500 off. The deals being offered through Costco are in addition to any dealer incentive programs that are currently available.<br />
<br />
We find it rather amusing that the promotion is only for Volvo crossovers - and yet it makes complete sense at the same time. Shopping at Costco practically necessitates driving a large vehicle while a quick glance at any warehouse store parking lot reveals a sea of trucks, SUVs and minivans. At least Volvo appears to be properly targeting Costco's customer base.<br />

Possibly the biggest news to come out of Volvo's announcement of pricing for the 2011 C30 is that there is going to BE a 2011 C30.<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/16/frankfurt-2009-facelifted-2010-volvo-c30-gets-it-right/"> We ogled the nipped and tucked C30 T5 in Frankfurt</a> and came away even more smitten than before with Volvo's neo-brake. The revised fascia and nipped and tucked bumpers bring the C30 into line with the future of Volvo design, however shaky that may be. <br />
<br />
It's hard to deny the allure of the stylish little dumpling, and it won't even break the bank. Available in the United States exclusively in T5 trim for 2011, $24,600 (plus *$850 for destination and delivery charges) will get you into the Swedish hatch with a 227 horsepower inline-five hooked to a six-speed manual. If the swoopy Swede isn't enough for you in stock trim, the C30 T5 R-Design brings lowered ride height and a monochromatic bodykit that makes the car look like it's hunkered way down over its new 18-inch wheels. <br />
<br />
The best part of the R-Design package are the suspension tweaks. Volvo says the stiffer bushings make the steering more direct and the rack's ratio is faster, too. Spring rates are up, and both the dampers and the swaybars have been stiffened, as well. Sounds expensive, doesn't it? Not so much - $26,950 (plus $850 D&amp;D) strikes us as a small bargain for the nattily styled Volvo hatch with sharpened teeth. Of course, that's before a visit to Ye Olde Options List, where the bottom line can get pretty daunting pretty quickly. Press release posted after the jump.<br />

Normally we can think of some cute little anecdote to kick these here posts off with, but today... can't do it. <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/bmw/">BMW</a> is raising their prices by 0.4 percent across the board on vehicles sold in North America. This price increase takes effect on January 1, 2010. Why? BMW isn't saying. And while less than a percent may not sound like much, if you're buying a stripper 760Li ($136,600), that's like $600!<br />
<br />
There is a tiny sliver of good news. The three vehicles that just got introduced to this continent in December -- the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/11/first-drive-2010-bmw-x6-activehybrid-is-technologically-impress/">ActiveHybrid X6</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/bmw+7+series+activehybrid/">ActiveHybrid 7</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/550iGranTurismo/">550i Gran Turismo</a> -- are unaffected by this price increase. Of course as all three of those vehicles haven't proved themselves in the marketplace yet, so that sliver is even tinier upon second glance. <br />
<br />
But it's not just the base prices that are going up. Destination &amp; Handling fees are on the rise as well. Every new BMW is coming with an additional $50 tacked onto the 2009 $825 price, for a total of $875. And yes, this fifty dollar increase applies to the two new hybrids and the Gran Turismo as well. That's customer retention, not retentive customers, though Mercedes-Benz could be said to enjoy both. J.D. Power and Associates has been indexing customer retention for seven years, and Mercedes-Benz tops the list in 2009. Power measures how many vehicle buyers are replacing an older model from the same brand, and Mercedes-Benz's 67-percent retention rate tops all others, including the usual suspects, Honda and Toyota. <br />
<br />
What's resonating with customers are resale value and quality. Even used Mercs are spendy, but they all ooze an air of quality. Ingot-solid platforms and the fine sheen of obsessively-perfected engineering seem to convince buyers that the cars will last forever and are of the highest quality. Why said customers might then trade a car with such inherent awesomeness, which is built to withstand all manner of circumstances, is another story entirely, but Mercedes-Benz's first-place finish this year caps a five-year run of increasing numbers, culminating with this year's best-ever 67 percent, the highest the Power study has measured.<br />

The U.S. Car Allowance Rebate System (a.k.a. 'cash-for-clunkers') program was a short-term boon for automakers participating in our market. Sales went up, inventory went down and nearly 700,000 vehicles that would likely have otherwise ended up on used car lots were destroyed. And since the U.S. is essentially a free market where automakers around the globe are allowed to participate, Japanese and European automakers benefited from the program as well. In fact, Japanese automakers fared even better than their U.S. competitors, as Toyota, Honda and Nissan are said to have surpassed their market share with the program. A reported 319,000 of the 677,000 vehicles sold via cash-for-clunkers were from Japanese companies. But while the U.S. C4C program took place in a free market where everybody is able to participate, critics are complaining that the new Japanese program is anything but equal opportunity.<br />
<br />
Japan is considered by many to be the world's most insular auto market, and its $3.7 billion government clunker program makes U.S. autos ineligible for government assistance. According to <em>The Detroit News</em>, the program, which the Japanese government is using to spur sales (which are down 17 percent versus 2008 levels), provides cash rebates of up to $2,830 for customers who turn in vehicles 13 years or older. Car buyers who don't turn in a vehicle can still get over $1,100 toward the purchase of a new vehicle. An estimated 87 percent of all Japanese vehicles are eligible for the program, while zero vehicles from <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/gm/">General Motors</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/ford/">Ford</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/chrysler/">Chrysler</a> will be eligible.<br />

The DetNews is reporting that Motown automakers have written a letter to the Deputy U.S. Trade Representative calling for action on a matter that was called "another example of Japan continuing efforts to discriminate against imported vehicles." Carol Guthry of the U.S. Trade Representative told the newspaper that the government is working to resolve the issue, adding "our position remains that changes are necessary to give U.S. vehicles greater opportunity to qualify under Japan's program." <br />
<br />
While we're not exactly import/export experts and we don't have any experience with foreign relations, we're thinking it's about time Japan treated foreign automakers in the Land of the Rising Sun with the same level of equality that its automakers receive elsewhere in the world. Spend any time in the advertising business, and you'll see this kind of struggle. So called "high-concept" advertising is what tends to be what consumers emotionally engage with and remember. Usually, only big brands with a national presence and lots of money can pull off advertising that is more about the spot than the product it's hawking. Running with the big boys requires vision on the part of decision makers. While big companies have marketing specialists with high falutin' degrees and summat, the retailers that close sales and take the money from your hand focus much more on product. <br />
<br />
According to <em>Bloomberg</em>, Chrysler and its dealer body are playing out this very struggle. Dealers are unhappy with the company's new advertising efforts and budget changes that have been made as part of the recently enacted five year business plan. Facing sales that were down twenty five percent in November, dealers have asked that the new ads focusing on lifestyle and brand-building, such as the latest Jeep spots, be stopped. Advertising that shows vehicles and their features, along with a harder sell on the price and incentive front would be preferable to the dealers. <br />
<br />
Cash on the hood is down, however, and Chrysler has some vehicles that are challenging to sell. Regional advertising budgets have been readjusted, as well, siphoning off funds from some higher-volume dealers to regions without enough volume to get any help in the fourth quarter otherwise. The plan in Auburn Hills is to aggressively rebuild its brands over the next five years, which is an image-building operation where the new campaign makes sense. In the meantime, however, the company needs to sell cars to stay solvent until its touchy-feely advertising takes root; an effort that may be better served by the product-centric advertising the dealers want. While everyone loves clever advertisements, sometimes it's just best to scream about the deals on Sunday, <u>Sunday</u>, <em><strong>SUNDAY</strong></em><strong>!</strong><br />

<br /> We're not apologizing to Nissan, but we were pretty flippantly dismissive of both the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/15/nissan-370z-40th-anniversary-edition-announced/">40th Anniversary Z</a> and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/24/2010-nissan-rogue-krom-revealed/">Rogue S Krom Edition</a>. Why? Because both struck as as badge jobs. When we think of special edition Nissans, we think of V-Spec, and that typically entails more power and/or pumped up handling. But not with these two cars. Though at least the Krom gets a new front end, which sadly isn't nearly as eye-catching as the nose of the not-for-us <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/04/nissan-updates-qashqai-crossover-and-no-were-still-not-gonna/">2010 Qashqai</a>. <br /> <br /> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/gallery/2010-nissan-rogue-krom-edition/"><img vspace="4" hspace="4" border="1" align="right" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/12/250krom.jpg" alt="" /></a><em>However</em>, the truth of the matter is that our favorite ever special Nissan was the legendary Black Gold 10th Anniversary Datsun 280ZX (and the even rarer Black <em>Red</em> - only 500 made, as opposed to 3,000 Black Golds). And that car was little more than a plaque and a <strike>coke habit</strike> paint job. Our point? Nissan had better produce a theme song for this new car. <br /> <br /> Anyhow, the prices of both the 40th Z and the Rogue Krom have just been announced. The Nissan 370Z 40th Anniversary Edition will set you back $38,860. Some of you might be asking why not spend the extra $330 and get the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/17/first-drive-2010-nissan-370z-nismo-simply-rocks/">better-than-a-regular-370Z NISMO</a> for $39,190? Well, Nissan will only be producing 1,000 40th Anniversary Zs. Other than that, we can't think of any reason. The Rogue S Krom Edition comes in at $23,940 for the front-wheel drive version, $25,140 if you want all-wheel drive. The 40AZ will be available in Q2 of 2010, the Krom in late Q3. <br /> Twin pack of bread, 36 bottles of water, 24 rolls of toilet tissue, a 64-oz. box of cereal and... a <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/galant">2010 Mitsubishi Galant.</a> That may sound a bit odd, but if you want certain 2009 and 2010 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/mitsubishi/">Mitsubishi</a> models with zero percent financing or discounted lease pricing, you'll apparently have to head over to your local Sam's Club. <em>Automotive News</em> is reporting that the discount warehouse is offering special deals on select Mitsubishi models through its Auto Buying Program that could well be better than the offers you'll get at your Mitsubishi dealer. Eligible models for zero percent financing for 60 months include the 2009 <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/lancer">Lancer</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/eclipse">Eclipse </a>and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/outlander">Outlander </a>and the 2010 Galant and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/endeavor">Endeavor</a>. Discounted leases will also be available for the 2010 Lancer Sportback and the 2010 Outlander.<br /> <br /> The Japanese automaker reportedly struck a deal with the retail giant to display some of its models at select stores. Mitsubishi Motors Credit America will supply the special financing, which will be reserved for Sam's Club customers with sufficient credit. The discount warehouse club will display the cars through February.     <title><![CDATA[REPORT: Honda to supplant Chrysler as America's 4th largest auto retailer]]></title>

Throughout most of the history of the US auto industry, the Detroit Three sat atop of the sales charts with <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/gm/">General Motors</a> claiming first, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/ford/">Ford</a> in second and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/chrysler/">Chrysler</a> placing third. In the past few years <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/toyota/">Toyota</a> has clawed its way past Chrysler and then Ford, and now it appears that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/honda/">Honda</a> too has now passed the Pentastar. Barring some miraculous (and we mean truly outstanding) development, Honda will officially overcome Chrysler to become the fourth largest automaker in the States. Honda holds a rather insurmountable 200,000 unit cushion against its competition from Auburn Hills, MI -- more vehicles than any automaker sold during the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/01/by-the-numbers-november-2009-strengthen-your-core-edition/">month of November</a>. Speaking of November, Chrysler was the only major automaker to see a sales decline, down 18.5 percent with a mere 65,000 units sold. Honda fared better with over 74,000 products sold.<br />

While Honda's victory on the sales charts is indisputable, neither automaker is making a big deal about it. A Honda exec reportedly told <em>Automotive News</em> that it only worries about it internal sales numbers and doesn't focus on ranks. Chrysler spokeswoman Kathy Graham told <em>AN</em> that the company is on the right track to improve its standing, adding, "We are taking the steps that are necessary to have a good foundation and to build consumer confidence." Graham also said that the company is expecting better results in the future on account of its increased advertising spending. If Chrysler doesn't reverse its sales slide, the next automaker to pass team Pentastar could be <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/nissan/">Nissan</a> -- the Japanese automaker finished only 7,000 units behind Chrysler in November.<br />

Luxury cars are nice. Most people would consider some kind of sacrifice to own one, while others plant their behinds in Corinthian Leather through ill-gotten gains. When something is desirable, there's no end to the scheming. The latest tactic for driving luxe without earning it is pretty blatant: just show up and take it! <a href="http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091202/RETAIL04/912029990/1%20132">Automotive News</a> reports that the FBI is currently looking into an operation that's using the identity of Atlas Towing and Recovery of Illinois, a real, legitimate business, to take luxury vehicles right out from under the noses of dealerships. <br />
<br />
The false haulers are apparently showing up at dealers and picking up cars using Atlas Towing's credentials, causing the National Auto Auction Association to send out a warning. Over the summer, Manheim Auto Auctions also got hit with a fake car hauler, and that operation is believed to be connected to the more recent activity. Dealers have been warned to notify the authorities if anyone posing as Atlas Towing and Recovery comes calling and and tries to pick up vehicles. It is pretty slick, though, showing up with a truck and an air of official-ness. Points for cleverness, but it's likely not clever enough to avoid capture eventually. <br />

<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/astonmartin">Aston Martin</a> has finally hung a price tag on its long-awaited four door, the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/rapide">Rapide</a>, in its U.K. home market. As you might reasonably expect, it won't come cheap, starting at &pound;139,950 or about $233,000 USD. Given pricing disparities between international markets, that's not necessarily an indication of what the Rapide will command Stateside, but we note that the Rapide costs nearly twice what <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/porsche">Porsche</a> asks for its base <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/panamera">Panamera</a> - and over &pound;40K ($66k USD) more than even the impossibly quick Panamera Turbo. Though the cars weren't exactly designed as competitors, there's little doubt that the two four-passenger sloping-roof models will be cross-shopped by interested parties, along with other quick luxocrats like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/quattroporte">Maserati Quattroporte</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/continental+flying+spur">Bentley Continental Flying Spur</a>.<br />

For that &pound;139,950 price tag, though, buyers will be getting a largely handmade and finely-crafted automobile powered by a 470-horsepower V12 engine. For what it's worth, that's 30 horses less than the Panamera Turbo, but it's wrapped in less divisive sheetmetal and it'll undoubtedly be far more exclusive.<br />

<br /> We're not the vindictive types here at Autoblog, but we can appreciate some measure of poetic justice. After all, how many lustworthy European supercars were made available over the decades to any European buyer with enough cash on hand, but those same cars were scarcely available on this side of the Pond? The Old Continent practically had the market cornered. But what goes around comes around, and in this case rather quickly, as <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/lexus/">Lexus</a> has announced that its <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/lfa">new groundbreaking LFA</a> will be available in Europe, but only from one dealership. And that one location isn't even on the continent. It's in England.<br /> <br /> London's Lexus Park Lane has been appointed as the sole sales location for the LFA in all of Europe. So any buyer from Monte Carlo to Oslo looking to get his or her hands on one is going to have to head here. A demonstration car has already arrived at the Park Lane showroom, and the dealership has appointed a dedicated "personal liaison manager" to handle all LFA sales. <br /> <br /> The one part where potential European customers have us beat is that, unlike <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/23/report-lexus-to-lease-not-sell-all-500-lfa-supercars-in-ord/">North American clients who'll have to lease their LFA</a>, across the Atlantic customers can actually buy their example outright. Prospective customers can begin registering their interest now, orders will begin in the spring and deliveries will commence in 2011 and continue through 2013 until all 500 examples have been sold. It's best to aim high, right? While most of the automotive world (<a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/16/2010-suzuki-kizashi-first-drive/">ourselves included</a>) are busy comparing the rather wonderful <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/kizashi">Suzuki </a><a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/kizashi">Kizashi</a> with logical competitors like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/jetta">Volkswagen Jetta</a> - not to mention larger cars like the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/tag/accord">Honda Accord</a>, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/mazda6">Mazda6</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/fusion">Ford Fusion</a> - it seems the Japanese automaker itself has its sights set a bit higher... all the way up to the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/a4">Audi A4</a> and <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/tsx">Acura TSX</a>, point of fact.<br />

Called the "Kizashi Test Drive Challenge" incentive program, Suzuki is offering sport sedan buyers $100 if they test drive the Kizashi first and still end up purchasing either a 2010 Audi A4 2.0T or four-cylinder 2010 Acura TSX within 10 days of the test drive. The program ends runs through January 31, 2010. Says Koichi Suzuki, executive vice president of American Suzuki Automotive Operations: <br />

Surprisingly, <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/ford/">Ford</a> decided to slip out U.S. pricing for its hotly anticipated <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/model/fiesta">2011 Fiesta</a> with no fanfare at all. No major announcements at the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/la-auto-show/">LA Auto Show</a>, no wordy press releases... nothing. But, if you head on over to <a href="http://www.fordvehicles.com/cars/fiesta/">Ford's official page</a> for the new Fiesta, you'll see that it starts at $13,320 (plus a $675 destination charge).<br />
<br />
Even better, the full Build and Price section is available, meaning you can see each and every individual option and its price. We went ahead and spent some time perusing the options list, and we see that the low base price is for the base S model, which comes exclusively in sedan form. The least expensive hatchback model is $15,120 (about $800 more than a comparably-equipped sedan).<br />
<br />
Step up to a hatchback with Ford's new six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and you're looking at $16,190, and the uprated SES hatchback starts at $17,120 ($18,190 with the auto). That's a hefty chunk of change to be sure, so a vehicle's anticipated resale value should be of prime concern when shopping for your next car or truck.<br />

Since 2003, KBB has published its Best Resale Value Awards, which seek to inform consumers of projected resale value for any particular model after five years and 75,000 miles worth of service. Considering its historic reputation for quality, it comes as little surprise that <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/toyota">Toyota</a> takes home the trophy as the brand with the best projected resale value and that its subsidiary <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/make/lexus">Lexus</a> grabs the award in the luxury category. We have to wonder, though, how the company's <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/25/breaking-toyota-to-recall-3-8m-vehicles-to-reshape-and-replace/">many</a> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/24/toyota-extends-tundra-rust-recall-to-include-2000-03-models-tot/">current</a> <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/06/report-toyota-execs-deny-cover-up-after-feds-rebuke-automaker-o/">woes</a> might damage its perceived value down the line.<br />

What division (barring Ferrari and Maserati) would you think holds the highest value for the company? If you thought Alfa Romeo, you're on the same page as yours truly, but you'd be mistaken. Horribly mistaken, as it turns out: Alfa has lost Fiat hundreds of millions of euros every year. Its sales have declined sharply, and not just since the global economy collapsed: Alfa sold 203,000 units in the year 2000, but only 103,000 last year. That's a heck of a drop-off.<br /> <br /> In response, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has ordered a full re-evaluation of the marque, with two courses of action to potentially result. The first would see Alfa more closely integrating its future products with Chrysler platforms. The second would be to stop investing in the brand altogether, leaving the still-new MiTo and the <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/02/alfa-romeo-previews-stylish-new-giulietta/">brand-new Giulietta</a> to carry its aging stablemates (including the 159, Brera, Spider and GT) for the foreseeable future.<br /> <br /> Speaking with <em>Automotive News Europe</em> from Fiat's headquarters in Turin, Marchionne reportedly said the new plan for Alfa will be revealed this coming February or March.
